CALDWELL MUSIC SERVICES - a brief history
Glenn created Caldwell Music Services (CMS) in 1993 in an effort to offer music-related services to a broader network of clients. He also wanted to take advantage of the tax write-offs associated with the purchase of inventory, legal fees, temporary hiring of staff, travel, and everything else linked to business ownership. These "projects" and "opportunities" include (but are not limited to):
- orchestrations for full orchestra (live performance and recording)
- compositions for various ensembles (live performance and recording)
- arrangements for jazz big bands (live performance)
- music research consulting
- private instruction in composition and arranging
- performance (jazz saxophone and jazz piano)
- production work (live performance and cd recording)
Over the past several years, CMS has dedicated a large portion of its efforts to gospel orchestrations and arrangements for full orchestra. As stated on the Home Page, some of these orchestrations were produced for live performances with artists as Stevie Wonder, Byron Cage, Ruben Studdard, Richard Smallwood, Chaka Khan, Marvin Winans and many others. Some of the orchestras playing these works include the Tokyo Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and the Dallas Symphony, just to name a few. These opportunities arose by way of early associations with music-world colleagues and through a growing business relationship with The Artist Company International. In September of 2011, Caldwell Music Services entered into a contractual relationship with The Artist Company International in which the company's services to them included Creative Director for Live Performances, consultant, and principal orchestrator and conductor for their trademark - Gospel Goes Classical.
Another recent project for CMS involved transcribing a large collection of songs owned by Sammy Davis Jr. Enterprises. Many of these songs were arranged (a large number hand-written in pencil) by George Rhodes, Marty Paich, J.J. Johnson, Claus Ogerman, and many others! Sammy performed these tunes throughout his career on Broadway, TV, in recording studios , and in live concerts. CMS was also entrusted to orchestrate a number of these works for a performance with The Columbia Orchestra (Columbia, Md.) featuring vocalist Stan Gilmer at the Jim Rouse Performing Arts Center (Columbia, Md.) on February 12, 2011. These works are not available through Hawk Time Music but we can certainly have the owner of these works get in contact with you if there is an interest in discussing their use.
In an on-going effort to keep the word "services" in the name, we try to keep a creative and open mind regarding what we can do for you! Give us a try!!
